Types of Cabinet Handles
At its core, there are two types of cabinet handles, which fall into their category based on how many screws it requires for attachment.
Knobs are simple pieces of hardware that attach to a cabinet drawer or door with a single screw. This is generally an easy piece of hardware to install and can be crafted from a large range of materials and finishes. Knobs are the most effortless option and can go a long way in adding a pop of color or a sophistication to your home. A coordinating backplate is an extra option to provide some protection against the wear and tear of daily use while also adding a touch of class to the knob.
Cabinet pulls are hardware that use two or more screws to attach, such as traditional kitchen drawer handles. In addition to your personal preferences, the determining factor in which pull type to buy will depend on the center-to-center measurement. This is the measurement between the center of one screw hole to the next.
Center-to-Center Measurement
Before browsing pull options, the most important step to take is to measure the distance between the screw holes of the furniture you'll be outfitting with new hardware. It's important to measure the distance between the screw holes ahead of time so you shop for the correct size. Measure the distance in inches using a tape measure, then use the search filter to narrow down your selection to only include pulls that match your center-to-center measurement. The most common size is 3 inches, but do not assume: always measure it yourself to check what hardware size you require.
