Whether completing a new addition for your home, building from the ground up, or just doing a quick remodel, a new door is often a central part of the project. Let’s make sure you know the basics before you buy, so you can pick up all the necessary parts in one step.
The project specifics depend on the location of the door. An interior door is mounted in a passageway inside the home or office. They are intended for lighter weight, indoor use, with less insulation to allow for temperature transfer between rooms. Exterior doors are thicker, made of heavier material and better able to handle the wear and tear of outdoor weather. They are durable to provide security, as well as sealed against sound and temperature variations.Steps to Designing a Kitchen
A slab door is a plain door to hang in an already existing frame in your home. It may require painting, as well as measuring and drilling for the mortise hinge mounts and the entry hardware such as a door knob and lock. They include standard design elements, like cut-out pane windows, rail designs, or louvers, but a slab door is otherwise a blank-slate, ready for you to add the finishing details at your work site. These are great as replacement interior doors, with plenty of customization options.
A prehung door has already had standard height mortise holes measured and drilled and the hinges installed. Interior prehung doors are built into a basic frame and ready to be mounted into the wall. Exterior prehung doors include a lower sill and are sealed and weather-tight for quick and easy installation. They are great for new-construction homes and additions, as the prehung frame will have to be finished off with the rest of the surrounding wall, from securing the drywall to adding trim and fresh paint.
